Anderson Silva ought to be tied with Mighty Mouse for many title protection at 11. He defended his Middleweight belt at UFC 67 in opposition to Travis Lutter who got here in chubby (187 lb) so it was deemed a non title bout.

  1. Prime Anderson didn’t give AF. You could put a middleweight, chubby mw, or light HW and he would best all of them. Father time caught him later as he always does though.

  2. It should count as a defense if the challenger misses weight. Why punish the champ for doing nothing wrong. At minimum there should be an asterisk signifying the they should have another title defense/title fight win.

  3. Another weird one is Jon jones with IIRC 15 consecutive title fight wins.

He only doesn’t have the most title defense record because he kept getting stripped and had to fight for the title again lol.

  4. Also Aljamain Sterling should have the most wins in BW history. He beat Renan Barao but at a catchweight (Barao missed weight) so it didn’t count. If it did he would have 14 wins making him the all time wins leader for the division.

  5. Doesn’t count as a defense because it wasn’t on the line because there was no challenger for the belt because of the weight miss. So if Silva lost he wouldn’t lose the belt there for no defense

  6. He also had that win over Bisping screwed up by the ref…

Don’t let stats ever tell a story. As Sammy Clementine said “there’s lies, there’s damn lies, and then there’s statistics”.

He had a good point IMO

  7. That is technically correct, but I think most feel that that rule is kind of stupid. Why should the champ be punished because a contender failed to make weight? In this case, Anderson did everything required of him in his contract. He showed up, made weight, and fought.

It’s like Jon Jones’ (the piece of shit) loss by DQ to Matt Hamil. Those 12 to 6 elbows are no more damaging than any other angle. However, since they were deemed ‘deadly’ by some combat officials after seeing a bunch of karate masters murdering cinder blocks, here we are.

All this to say that some rules really need to be updated to reflect the current state of MMA. Maybe a bunch of records will be adjusted to have asterisks next to fight outcomes, but hopefully it will show a more accurate record of every fighters’ resume.

  8. Wait, UFC told me back then MM was the Goat for ‘surpassing’ Anderson! Now that you make me think about it, UFC also told me Halabeeb was the Goat! Same company promoting Sanko as 1st UFC female commentator! Guys.. are you telling me UFC simply twists reality according to the hot fighter of the moment? That can’t be!! C’mon!!
