  1. Most pertinent info:

    >If the bill passes into a law, $1 from each ticket sold at MMA events in California will go into the pension fund. Checks will then be cut annually to retired fighters age 50 or older who had a certain number of pro fights in California. The criteria for those eligible will be roughly 13 fights in the state, [bill sponsor Assemblymember Matt] Haney said.

  2. This can actually be a great move that could possibly become a larger initiative nationally….it can encourage the participation of more organizations hosting fights throughout the U.S. increasing opportunities and economic growth…

  3. It’s good to see that some legislators care about MMA, but if this were to pass the UFC would probably just hold fewer events in CA and make sure fighters don’t hit the 13 fight threshold. It would probably help regional fighters in CA though

  4. Nothing will change until Dana White is gone from the picture, he’s dedicated his life to fighting tooth and nail on the wrong side of history against fighter pay and fairness.

  5. “California holds more combat sports events than any other state in the country by a sizeable margin.”

Are they talking about amateur? Vegas surely has more UFC events. Expect ticket prices to go up as well. I don’t buy tickets but I’m just saying. It’s like when fast food workers got paid more. The food got more expensive.

  6. Take this to the top of r/all this is necessary.

Damn homies are gonna be chasing those 13 fights like cmon mick book in Anaheim again.

All of strikeforce, Tachi Palace and WEC gets grandfathered in lol (CA orgs)

  7. They’re just gonna avoid making events in California, not like ufc comes there much at this point but it is a good step in the right direction if other states adopt this namely nevada

  8. 1$ from each ticket isn’t that much. Hopefully someone like Dana won’t be such a penny pincher about it, I can easily see them just not going to Cali anymore over this lmao.

  9. With how little shows UFC does in CA, I imagine this will probably make them avoid CA entirely. $1 per ticket sale is chump change for the ufc. But I imagine for Dana, it will be enough to put him off as a way to make a statement. Biggest promotion this applies to would be Bellator, which to them would still be kind of chump change. For the many regional promotions in the state, this does affect them much more.

  10. There should have been some legacy costs settled out after the Endeavor sale. Instead even Griffin/Bonnsr got cut loose. A very small fraction of that sale price would have gone a long way for fighters with permanent health issues who built the company.

  11. I want fighters to have money after they put their lives on the line for my entertainment with often lasting consequences.

That said, effing unions own California, everything, every job is skimmed a lil.
