  1. Islam Makhachev is growing increasingly frustrated with the UFC as the newly-crowned lightweight champion prepares to make his first title defense following his dominant submission victory over Charles Oliveira last month in Abu Dhabi.

The Dagestani native and Khabib Nurmagomedov protege was thought to be fighting Alexander Volkanovski in Perth, Australia, next year. However, that matchup appears to be in jeopardy judging by Makhachev’s latest Tweet in which he told the UFC to ‘stop playing games’ and send the contract for his next fight.

“I’m not sure what UFC wants, February Australia or March Vegas, I honestly don’t care about location and opponent, I never choose opponents. Just send a contract and stop playing games,” Makhachev posted yesterday.

Makhachev’s comments come after Volkanovski cast doubt about Islam’s commitment to the matchup by questioning whether the latter actually wants the fight following their face-off at UFC 280.

“Are you a man of your word? [Islam Makhachev]? Let’s make it happen!”

  2. UFC need a title for Perth.

So it’s Volk v Emmett/Allen or Volk v Islam. I can’t see them getting any other title on that card.

    Bobby v Costa as co-main.

Maybe they are fucked for that vegas card, so holding back Islam v someone for it, depending on what happens this weekend.

  3. Can we just do Islam vs Dariush. It’s by far the most fair and interesting match up. Give time to Volk to beef up for LW. I have zero interest in seeing Islam choke out either Chandler or Justin in a round.

  4. The way Dana talked before the fight, the way he praised Oliveira and the fact that Brazil & Australia have confirmed events seems to suggest that Dana and UFC are very confident for an Oliveira win. Which will set nicely with Volkanovski fight next.

But with Islam ended up winning, feels like they are going back to the drawing board. Very weird if they do not have contingencies

  5. Chandler/Porier getting their 256th titleshot before legitimate deserving title contenders like Dariush sounds like a move UFC definitely would do

  6. It’s clear cut the reason is ultimately in favour of a potential McGregor fight. Have one of these guys go in and fight for the title, to have McGregor potentially come in for another title fight. Idiots if they believe that Islam won’t destroy both Chandler and Dustin.
