  1. Some notable parts of the video:

The coach acknowledged it was their own fault they missed weight, praised Nate for being a professional and making weight

States that they appeared to be on course to making the weight the night before, wanted to leave the rest of the weight cut till the next morning, until Khamzat because very ill overnight — dehydrated, vomiting, body seizing up. After talking to the doctors that night, they decided to stop the weight cut. Said it was a safety issue for his fighter.

States this was the first time any of his fighters didnt make a weight cut in his entire career.

Explained the Khamzat trains harder than anyone but also, what comes with that, eats so much for energy. Theyre going to be more disciplined in that regard — he’s suggesting more rest, less eating.

Edit: the time line from what it seems is that 2 days before the weigh in, they seemed on course. They were leaving the rest of the weight cut to the next morning, which would be the day before the weigh in. Then he states he got sick the night in between, making them call off the weight cut. To recover, he then likely started eating and rehydrating, which coincides with mini khabib seeing him eat the night before the weigh in.

  2. He needs a 170 title shot ASAP and then move to 185 immediately. It becomes more and more difficult to maintain a lower weight. It would be such a waste if he never fights for the 170 title.

  3. on one hand he either fucked up the cut and didn’t manage his diet correctly or the cut was going well and he ate all the right foods in which case I seriously question if Khamzat being at welterweight is sustainable for him because he did everything right and still couldn’t make weight.

  4. Impressive that he didn’t suffer any punishment, even losing weight by more than 8 pounds in a numbered ppv and being a co-star, while the UFC took a champion’s belt and still 30% of his purse in addition to being ineligible for bonuses, a fighter who has more than 10 years company per half pound, even within category but not championship margin of error

  5. Didn’t he get COVID pretty severely?

I follow the medical writing on long-term effects of COVID so I can know how I’m gonna croak eventually, and pretty much every organ has the potential to be fucked.

Combine that with the rock solid fact that the severe dehydration of weight cutting has been shown, again and again, do be able to damage every organ, and I don’t see qwight misses under this regime being less common over time. Even *healthy* bodies don’t do well with it, esp not repeatedly. Long COVID might push the issue to fix this shit

  6. Khamzat is just way too big for WW, why all the tip toeing around it. The guy was almost 10 lbs overweight, bone dry. He didn’t look like he had any water or fat left to lose, just have him go up to 185 where he can clearly comfortably make weight.
