[Brett Okamoto] Spoke to Khamzat Chimaev’s coach Andreas Michael this morning, he instructed me his guess is their subsequent combat is at middleweight on the finish of the 12 months. Additionally described every thing that occurred throughout weight reduce. Mentioned it was his determination to cease the reduce, not physicians.

  1. Khamzat vs Costa is the obvious overall pick for his next 185. They have beef, Costa is big enough that it’s questionable how well Khamzat could blast through him like he does 170ers, and they are both big entertaining names.

A bigger challenge might be Vetorri, who can’t really be knocked out or wrestled easily as he is an orc, but everyone looks worse when they fight Vetorri (minus Rob), so it wouldn’t boost Khamzat as much.

  2. I mean if Adesanya beats Pereira, Khamzat could could just fight Pereira and get in the top 5 for free. I’m sure the ufc wants to setup a Khamzat vs Izzy fight, and that’s the lowest risk way to do it

  3. I like that his head coach isn’t a yes man, but I feel like their conflicting opinions and mentalities will lead to either Khamzat leaving or Michael leaving

**wait maybe I read this wrong, was the coach saying it was HIS or Khamzat’s decision?

Cuz that kinda changes what I just said

  4. Mfs love to read a headline and form whole ass opinions off it….he said he was advised by Physician to stop weight cut and stopped it to be cautious about Khamzat’s health. He said he’s never had a fighter miss weight in his ~25 years of coaching and didn’t want to play with his fighter’s health if a physician advised against it.

Hate the decision or not, more fighters need coaches like this.

  5. If he wants to position himself in the top 5 at MW, the fight to make is one of Brunson or Costa. Brunson would test his wrestling, Costa would be a threat on his size alone.

  6. Costa is the fight, gives him a quick jump in the ranks at MW. But I honestly don’t think he has a problem beating Costa, after seeing his last performance against Luke he just didn’t look that impressive. He dropped a bit of muscle and looks to have a much easier cut, but it didn’t look like it helped him or his style. Gourmet Chen Chen could be on the menu, but I think khamzat grinds him out quick.

  7. Since he’s been in the UFC has he ever made 170 on the dot? Or has it always been 171? Either way his body just looks to big for 170 imo, i hope he stays at 185.

  8. Khamzat at MW could fight cannonier, costa or vettori and a win over any of them should put him in for a title shot but if he commits to fighting at 185 for the belt and bulks up a bit he will be at or around that weight for the next 1 – 2 years and I don’t see him being able to make 170 again in the future.

I think he should diet hard right now and preserve his chances at 170 because one more win at WW and he has a shot at kamaru or leon.

At WW he is looking at the winner of Brady V Belal or Colby. Colby is possibly willing to sit on the sideline and see what happens with Leon V Usman 3 because if Leon wins he arguably has first dibs on that title fight.

The problem is, at WW Khamzat is about to have a bunch of rough fights, as we saw with gilbert, if you can wrestle or have legit blackbelt credentials and can take a punch then you can draw Khamzat into deep water and he is vulnerable. Gilbert had him rocked and nearly won that fight. Colby is a a great wrestler and can put an intense pace, Belal has nuts grappling and is very durable, Brady is a legit daniel gracie blackbelt and is very strong and undefeated as well. One of those guys is his path to a shot at the title against Kamaru or Leon and they are more likely to be similar to the gilbert fight then the holland fight.

At MW Cannonier is older and might not be able to keep up the pace, his striking wouldn’t be a huge threat. Costa probably can’t match the pace or stop the takedown. Vettori would be a touch matchup though. If Khamzat really has to kill himself to make 170 and can’t do it properly anymore, than those fights at WW are pretty tough and his camp may prefer his chances at MW.

Will be very interesting to see how his career plays out but IMO he is looking at a murderers row from here on out, just top contenders in both divisions and championship fights.

  9. The questions I have to ask are –

Does Khamzat have more than 2 rounds of stamina with his style? Would be adjust his approach at MW?

Does Costa have the necessary anti-wrestling/bjj to prevent a sub?
