  1. Very sweet writeup, people were shitting on the UFC for not doing it soon enough but I’m glad they took the time to pen something beyond generic corporate talk.

RIP Elias, seemed like a legitimately great dude.

  2. Speaking just on his fighting career, no matter what anyone thought about his style, in his own way, you could say he was elite defensively. Definitely knew how to not get hurt. That Thiago was brutally finishing literally everyone he beat. And Elias went to a fairly close decision without really getting hurt bad

  3. I worked on a small comedy show for CBC a few years back and Elias was a background actor for a scene at a strip club.

We were in a sketchy part of the city so I was tasked with escorting the background actors from home base to set.

At one point I had to escort Elias to set as he was one of the background actors and I thought it was one of the funniest things ever, some random film worker escorting a UFC vet to set for their protection.

He was a really nice guy and just thought I’d share this story.

    RIP

  4. I had been following, appreciating, and really rooting him on in his journey to change marijuana consumption laws and regulations for athletes. Looking back now, it makes a lot more sense why he was fighting for this.

Gone way too soon, rip brother

  5. RIP I really liked that season of TUF.Dude made his mark despite not having KO power and unfriendly to casual fights. I thought him, Aubin-Mercier, and Laprise were next up for Canadian fighters after that season.

  6. This is a shock. Followed Elias on Instagram since back in the day, never would’ve known he was ill from his posts… that’s a true warrior, fighting till the end and not a single complaint or any inkling that he was ill.

    Damn. RIP.

  7. All of the losses hit me really hard, but I felt so familiar with him. He was on camera quite a lot and very open with his personality. It just fucking sucks.

My thoughts are with his loved ones.

  8. Perhaps boring, but definitely an intelligent fighter. Safe, but also effective. We remember him as a wrestler, indeed he never hesitated to take the shot. That said, lot of people didn’t realize how deadly his jab was.

  9. My wife hated MMA, but always watched Theodorou fight. Her reason was that he was hot, and watching his fights was less stressful and less “icky” because he wasn’t violent.

  10. I wasn’t his biggest fan but always cheered for him as a fellow Canadian, who also lived in Toronto and went to the same college (not that I ever met him). Sad to see him pass away so young. Him being only two years older than me really puts how fragile life is into perspective. Cancer sucks.

  11. I hope this story gets more likes. Elias was a real G of the sport and did some great work in and out of the UFC. 🙏 We all have the final chapter, but gone too soon!

  12. Damn. RIP. By all accounts, a very good person and is sorely missed. Nice to see people paying respects and giving recognition to him for his skill set as a fighter.

Just sucks a guy like this dying. The planet is reconstituting one of the good ones. It should have taken someone else.

  13. I’m confused as to his Instagram activity.. he just started up a new brand and has been very active as of late. Does cancer sometimes strike that fast? The timeline makes me curious.

  14. Pay for his funeral you cheap motherfuckers. You think some bullshit fluff article that just side steps the fact that they cut an 8-3 fighter for being “boring” cuts it? Put your money where your mouth is Dana you tomato headed fuck.

  15. Damn this is sad… I started following Elias just when I started University around 10 years ago

As a Canadian, MMA/UFC fan and marijuana user I always found him very endearing and genuine. Was always rooting for him in his fights. RIP Elias.
